Te Whare Taonga o Kororareka
Russell Museum
2019

Isthmus was engaged to create a concept for a purpose built museum that showcases nationally significant stories, artefacts and objects. The design includes a local library and community facility to replace the ad-hoc and under-performing facilities.

The museum curator Kate Martin commented on the importance of producing β€œan empathetic design that is true to the significant site the building occupies both historically and culturally.”

Particular design constraints were the archeologically sensitive site, the heritage context of Russell and the proximity to the sea.

The Museum was granted non-notified Resource Consent in 2019.

Ginny and Adelle worked together at Isthmus alongside Alistair Luke, David Irwin & Andre de Graaf.
