The existing historic home is a fine example of an early concrete villa. It plays an important and significant role in the fabric of Auckland’s architecture.

It presents itself as a single story villa from Richmond Road however as the site slopes sharply down to the northeast it allows a full second story underneath. The living areas are situated on the ground floor that connect to the wider site and gardens. 

AVA proposes a contemporary design approach for the new addition that allows the existing historic features to be clearly legible and celebrated. The overall impression of the sun room addition is a transparent space lightly attached to the house.

We have worked with the clients to provide a high quality addition that is relevant to their lifestyle, and fitting for the whole site and to ensure the house can remain in use and continue to be maintained and well cared for.
